One morning ten years ago, we fell in love with a dog. There was litter of puppies that had lost their mom and they were ready to be adopted from the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society.
One little girl chose us. Our new role as her dog parents meant new rituals, new rules, and lots of new commitments.
Our lives quickly became filled with joy and optimism and happiness, all because of Trekker. Our life started to revolve around her and what fun things she would like to do.
It was amazing how much love and laughter Trekker brought into our lives. What was more amazing was how much closer Eric and I became with each other because of her.
Trekker lived a brave, beautiful life. She protected us and loved us. She made our life together so much brighter. She loved to camp, swim, hike, ride in the Jeep, lounge in the sun, and play with Tango kitty.
Even when she got cancer, she never wasted time being afraid of tomorrow.
On Monday, June 1st, Trekker died in our arms at home. It was beautiful and tragic and heartbreaking and a moment to cherish.
Trekker – in another time, in a happier place, we will meet again.
